Snow!

MBC enjoyed the first snow of winter last night! The picture above is of Grafton Library with the beautiful mountain view in the background. Classes began two hours later this morning in order for our campus grounds crew to clear walkways for the students. However, this cold weather will not be around long... we will be in the mid-60s by end of the week! Bring on Spring! :)

Financial Aid Tips

Keep the following tips in mind when completing your FAFSA:

  1. We encourage you to file electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov or FAFSA en Español
  2. If you are a dependent student, you must have at least one parent sign your application. The easiest way to do this is with personal identification numbers. You may request one for yourself AND your parent at www.pin.ed.gov.
  3. Our Title IV Code is 003723 and must be listed for Mary Baldwin College to receive the resulting Student Aid Report electronically.
  4. Keep copies of all tax records and worksheets completed.
  5. Carefully review your application for accuracy and completeness.
SAVE: Copies of the FAFSA or Renewal Application, all tax forms (including any telefile worksheets) and any worksheets used in completing your application. These may be needed if you are selected for verification.
If you are selected for verification, we will send you a Verification Worksheet to complete before we send your award letter. Please complete the front and back of this worksheet (be sure the necessary signatures and the attached FAFSA worksheet are in place), attach signed copies of your federal tax return(s), and send to:

Holiday Cookie Decorating Party at the President's House

The Annual Cookie Decorating Open House at the President's house was held last night. This is one of the most favorite holiday events that our students look forward to around this time of year! Every year, Dan Layman, Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Dr. Fox's husband, makes special squirrel gingerbread cookies along with other holiday favorite baked items for the students to decorate and enjoy before exams begin next week. This year, Mr. Layman made 2,000 cookies! Our students enjoy this opportunity to interact with one another and with Dr. Fox and Mr. Layman. Below are pictures from this year's event!

President's Society Holiday Party

President's Society, the admissions ambassadors student organization, celebrated their annual holiday party last night at the President's House on campus. Some of these young women may look familiar to you, and it's because they are the tour guides and hostesses to all prospective students in the admissions office! This wonderful group of students enjoyed this time to celebrate another awesome semester of representing the Admissions office and MBC at recruitment events on and off campus. The above picture is the President's Society annual holiday picture with Dr. Pamela Fox, President of Mary Baldwin College, and her husband Mr. Dan Layman, Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement.

President's Society looks forward to meeting you all in the Spring of 2012 as you begin to make your college decision. We encourage you to register for a campus visit and to take the opportunity to learn about the student experience at MBC!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is slowly getting quiet on campus as students leave for the Thanksgiving break this week, but it was an exciting weekend for our students! This past weekend, the Junior class celebrated Junior Dads and Family Weekend which is one of the most treasured traditions at MBC. The celebration honors each Junior student as she is presented with her class ring. This is an event that the Juniors look forward to every year!

There are many exciting events happening when students return to campus staring the week of November 28th, so please check back with us next to see what's happening at MBC!

Safe travels to those venturing across the country this week. The Office of Admissions would like to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall Visit Day- November 2011

Fall Visit Day at MBC

This year's Fall Visit Day welcomed over 50 prospective students and their families to campus to explore MBC and all that we can offer to students during their collegiate career. The welcome session started off the day with guest speakers from the admissions office, the financial aid office, the residence life office, and dining services. Our families then enjoyed a campus tour on a beautiful (but chilly!) Fall day and then attended a Chemistry class in our auditorium. For lunch, our prospective students and their families had the opportunity dine in Hunt Dining Hall and to speak with representatives from the Athletics Office, the VWIL office, First Year Experience Office, Security Office, Study Abroad Office, and the Financial Aid Office. Parents were able to get their questions answered while our prospective students were able to meet current students and learn about their experience so far on campus. Please take a look at the pictures below to see experience our Fall Visit Day! (Also, Gladys, the Squirrel, made an appearance during the day!)

Fall Overnight Visit

 Fall Overnight Visit 2011

The Fall Overnight Visit in October was a great success! Over 20 prospective students visited campus to experience a day in the life a MBC student and were hosted by our very own President's Society members. Our prospective students participated in student activities, including Downtown Movie Madness, enjoyed meals on campus, attended a Biology or Social Work class, and learned about the First Year Experience Program, Study Abroad opportunities, Varsity Athletic opportunities, and much more! There was even an opportunity for parents to learn about MBC and to ask questions of the admissions office, financial aid office, and student life office.

An overnight visit is the BEST way for a student to picture herself on campus and our prospective students did just that and had an amazing time experiencing MBC campus life!
